“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Over one week, our 42 member restaurants made 168 unique meals for thousands of guests spanning all of New Jersey. Our restaurants covered every type of cuisine with the Chef’s and their owners having lived all around the globe. We featured wine from some of the best wineries right here in town, as-well-as around the country.
When the dust settled, most people would’ve been ready to call it quits. At SJHotChefs, we’re a family, and that’s why we continue to do these events year round. After serving thousands of loyal and new guests, we eagerly started planning our next restaurant week, coming in the spring.
The definition of a common denominator is a feature shared by all members of a group. The common denominator for the restaurants that we feature at SJHotChefs is lots of heart. We have never been more proud to feature restaurants than we are today.
Over this past decade, we have continued to marvel at the growth in New Jersey, both inside, and out of our restaurants.
Food for us as Chef’s and Owners is a way of life. We have always set out to push back against big industry and fast paced food. We have always cherished middle America living, farming, and using up all the resources in front of us, letting nothing go to waste.
SJHotChefs was born out of a belief that food can be a gateway to better living, sustainability, going back to roots, and increased joy in all of our lives.
It’s a harder way to live, but we couldn’t imagine it any other way. One of the takeaways from our Restaurant Weeks and annual events is remembering how precious our time around the table together is. We know the guests that come to our restaurants recognize and appreciate our dedication to this way of living.
Backyard Parties and Fall Treats
SJHotChefs is all about creative teamwork, so we wanted to highlight three steps to creating the most epic fall party of 2015. Get ready for fall drinks, fall eats, and lot’s of sing-alongs this October.
Step 1: The Drinks (Autumn Delight)
It’s time to let the apples out of the bag. One of our favorite fall cocktails is inspired from Bushmills Irish Whiskey and their Since Way Back Campaign. You might be familiar with Aaron Paul, from Breaking Bad, who’s a big supporter of Bushmills, all things whiskey, and backyard parties.
Drink of Choice: #AutumnDelight
Can we just preface with this, you won’t have a better fall whiskey cocktail for the rest of YOUR LIFE.
Ingredients: Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey, Fresh Apples, Organic Apple Cider, Cinnamon Sticks, Cinnamon Powder, strainer.
Prep time: 30 minutes.
Make sure your apples are cold and chop them into quarter slices. Add 2.5oz of Bushmills into a shaker, with 6 oz of apple juice and cinnamon powder. Shake well with ice and strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with two apple slices and a cinnamon stick.
Now that we’ve got the hard part down, it’s time to enlist some of your more sociable friends for some serious backyard bartending. Take a deep breath, we’ve got the drinks down, now it’s time for the eats.
Step 2: The Eats (Apple Pie Pops and Company)
Since we’re sticking with the fall meets Apple and re-runs of Friends theme, let’s roll out our first dessert for this epic backyard party; Apple Pie Pops. Just thinking about it, Apple Pie, on a stick. Enough said. We’re also recommending Mini Maple-Pecan Pies and Apple-Pear tarts. All of these delicious recipe friendly treats are available at BHG.com for your viewing pleasure. All you’ll need are some fantastic baking friends, and some colorful tables set up right next to the drinks station.
Step 3: The Music: (Grab your guitars)
We don’t want to take all the glory away from our Autumn Delight, but this is the most important step. Setting the mood is crucial for your backyard fall jamboree and making sure you take the throne as the best party planner ever.
“Live Music is the cure for what ails ya.” -Henry Rollins
What you’ll need to do is find those talented friends you’ve got, the ones with the vocal chops, and guitar skills. Have them play the music, or help get someone who can, because live music is crucial to this going off with a bang. Throw together a flyer, and a great playlist filled with your favorite cover songs and maybe a few originals. We think this is the start to a beautiful future, planning fall parties and all.
If there is one thing we can agree on, live music cures the soul, and whiskey cures the cold. From all of us at SJHotChefs, we bid you a happy fall season and an incredible backyard party!
