“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.” –Wendell Berry
This year, we have an incredible 33 restaurants participating in our annual Summer Farm-To-Fork Week.
Our chefs have been hard at work creating something you won’t forget. We promise we’ve got your taste buds covered.
From July 19-25th, we are going to have some of the freshest local foods for you to try at all of our member restaurants.
Our mission has always been to educate people on where their food comes from and bring them the freshest ingredients possible.
Farm to Fork isn’t a new concept; it is a rather ancient one.
You know, sometimes it is hard to appreciate a good meal, even at a great restaurant isn’t it? We get busy, and food often gets in the way.
Next week for us is a chance to slow down, catch each flavor from every bite, and appreciate the hard work and dedication our chefs, and local farmers put into our food.
We’ve got one body and one earth, and what we put into it, we are going to get back.
That’s why we wanted to take a moment and highlight the farm where our produce will be coming from for Farm to Fork week.
Duffield’s Farm Market is rooted in legacy.
In the early 1930’s Claude Duffield purchased a parcel of property in Sewell, New Jersey. Claude started his farm by raising mostly fruits and vegetables to local distributors. His true passion was with growing and educating people on the beauty of fresh produce.
Claude’s son, Dave Sr. continued his father’s work by expanding the farm. Out of necessity Dave’s wife, Mary sold fresh strawberries on their porch. As local word got out, they started a market.
Today, the Duffield’s Farm Market has a beautiful storefront, providing fresh produce, baked goods, and deli items to multiple communities.
At SJ Hot Chefs, the work we do in providing Farm to Fork meals would never be possible without the generosity and support of the Duffield’s Farm Market. They are a testament to dedicating their lives work to the community and supporting local restaurants every step of the way.
“This is the power of gathering: it inspires us, delightfully, to be more hopeful, more joyful, more thoughtful: in a word, more alive.” –Chef Alice Walters
Hundreds of people will make next week possible, and we hope you enjoy the meals we have labored to create for you and your families.
We also hope you have a sweet time of fellowship with your family at our restaurants. Food is a gateway to the best moments in life, spending time with the people we love.
Farm to Fork week is always a constant reminder for us at SJ Hot Chefs that we are so blessed to have our jobs, friends and loved ones surround us daily.
Wherever life finds you next week, we hope it brings you to our restaurants, to enjoy a warm home cooked meal, straight off of New Jersey soil.
Living locally is about a full-circle perspective on life. What we create, we pass down to the next generation. So bring out your kids, and take part in educating them about a new relationship to food. One that connects them to history, and to the earth.
We believe that people are the main influencers in the world, shaping culture and everyone around them.
So join us. Let’s make next week historic, and continue the tradition that started long before SJ Hot Chefs.
