South Jersey Independent Restaurants Offer Great Dining Experiences Close to Home

You don’t need to cross a bridge when you want to dine out. That’s because South Jersey boasts a vast variety of great independent, locally owned and operated restaurants—42 of them, actually— that will exceed your dining expectations.
We operate under the SJ Hot Chefs banner and not only serve every type of cuisine imaginable, but our offerings are enhanced through the use of the products of our local food purveyors.
This is, after all, the Garden State and that gives us the advantage of the ready availability of fruits and vegetables grown locally. Also the ocean is less than 50 miles away so we can serve the freshest seafood in season. Many of our establishments offer local wines, in addition to vintages from around the world. It gives us great pleasure to not only support our local farmers, fisherman and wine-makers, but to enable our customers to experience and enjoy fresh regional fare.
We especially value our dining guests. Because we, too, live and work in South Jersey, so many of our customers are also neighbors, friends and family. In fact, the South Jersey restaurant scene is like family—where conversation during meals is welcomed and encouraged. Our chefs find great pleasure when they see diners enjoying the fine meal they prepared along with good conversation that together make a memorable dining experience.

We know you have other dining options and that we face stiff competition from chain restaurants and fast food operators. But we, as chefs and business owners, cherish our independence. We would feel like prisoners in chains and un-fulfilled preparing accelerated fare. Being a chef-owner is a way-of-life we love and strive to ensure that our efforts are giving pleasure to those who dine with us.
We are also proud that a diverse group of more than 40 chef-owners of restaurants from Camden, Burlington and Gloucester Counties have been collaborating together for a decade to make our South Jersey neighbors better aware of the culinary treasures that can be found just minutes from their homes. Our band of brothers (and sisters) that we call the SJ Hot Chefs is working together to encourage other South Jersey citizens to frequent our restaurants. One of our most popular events is Restaurant Week. Our Spring Restaurant Week event, sponsored by the Hughes Center, is scheduled for March 13 to March18. That’s when you and your dining companions can enjoy four pre-selected courses for a fixed price of $35.
