It’s almost Summer and that means a few of our favorite things. Backyard pool parties, incredible nights out at your favorite local bar or restaurant, and lots of drinks.
You have to stay hydrated right?
We wanted to give you a short list of the drinks you better not be missing out on this summer. From coffee to beer, and somewhere in-between we hope we can help you quench your thirst all summer long!
Let’s start with the basics.
We know, you’re thinking of the hot stuff, that gross cup of burned Starbuck’s coffee filled with way too much Splenda and cream. Think not.
We’ve got some alternatives to jolt you into summer that are absolutely breathtaking and memorable.
Why coffee you ask? Well it’s the greatest drink to grace mankind, and it’s actually really healthy for you. Although it’s not scientifically proven, we think a cup of coffee a day leads to all kinds of health benefits, mainly staying up late and enjoying yourself a whole bunch more!
Coffee has some pretty historical and legendary roots. One account involves a 9th-century Ethiopian goat-herder, Kaldi, who, noticing the energizing effects when his flock nibbled on the bright red berries of a certain bush, chewed on the fruit himself.
The earliest credible evidence of either coffee drinking or knowledge of the coffee tree appears in the middle of the 15th century, in Yemen’s Sufi monasteries.
The rest is shall we say, history!
After the Boston Tea Party of 1773, large numbers of Americans switched to drinking coffee during the American Revolution because drinking tea had become unpatriotic. I guess we owe the British for all the coffee shops popping up across the country.
Here are a couple drinks that are easy to make for your backyard parties and to order at your favorite coffee shop.
1. Iced Coconut Dirty Chai Latte
This drink is easy to make and absolutely delicious. 1 part coconut milk, 1 part chai, and 2 shots of espresso. Not only will you be wired, but it’ll taste good going down on those hot summer days. If you really don’t like the taste of espresso, opt out for more chai and it’ll still be a great experience!
2. Iced Spiced Coffee
This drink is something for the ages and super easy to make. All you need is a chilled orange, nutmeg, cinnamon and cream to add after. Just add your favorite iced coffee and you’ll have one of the best coffees you’ve ever had.
Once you’ve had coffee, the next drink to jump start your summer day should be a beer!
While some people would say that beer isn’t very healthy for you, http://www.menshealth.com/health/have-a-beer gives us 11 great health benefits of drinking beer!
Beer, or more specifically, ale, is one of the oldest beverages humans have produced, dating back to at least the fifth millennium BC and recorded in the written history of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. As almost any cereal containing certain sugars can undergo spontaneous fermentation due to wild yeasts in the air, it is possible that beer-like beverages were independently developed throughout the world soon after a tribe or culture had domesticated cereal. Chemical tests of ancient pottery jars reveal that beer was produced about 7,000 years ago in what is today Iran, and is one of the first-known biological engineering tasks to utilize the process of fermentation.
Some of the oldest records of beer in America date back to the early 1600’s. It’s safe to say that beer is here to stay.
Here are two great ones to try out this summer!
1. Ballast Point Pale Ale
The ale yeast for this beer adds some fruitiness, and the mixture of wheat, Munich and American malts adds a crispness that is prevalent in pilsners. It’s a well-balanced hybrid of lager and ale that is both refreshing and flavorful.
2. Andersen Valley Summer Solstice
This beer is a lightly sweet, malty beer with a creamy and clean finish. With hints spice, it’s become affectionately known as “cream soda for adults.” The unique flavors and superior drinkability make for the ultimate refreshment on a hot summer day.
Iced Bourbon Chai Latte
If you’re feeling bold this summer, go ahead and try this drink.
We promise this will be one of the tastiest drinks you’ll ever have, and your friends will love it.
1 part bulleit bourbon, 1 part soy milk, and 1 part spiced chai, and you’ll be near heaven.
From all of us at SJ Hot Chefs, we hope you have the best summer ever, and happy drinking! Stay tuned to our blog this summer for more ways to make this one the best yet!
